Located in the northern part of the new Shangcheng District, it was originally Jianqiao Town before being renamed Jianqiao Subdistrict in December 2014. Covering a total area of 19.7 square kilometers, the subdistrict governs 20 communities and 14 collective economic cooperatives (four of which have completed the separation of economic and social functions). Key institutions within its jurisdiction include Jianqiao Airport, Hangzhou East Railway Station, and the Zhejiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences. Since the reform and opening-up, Jianqiao has vigorously developed township enterprises and was ranked among "Hangzhou’s Top 10 Strongest Townships in Comprehensive Strength" ten times. It has nurtured renowned enterprises such as Xizi United Holdings, Wensli Group, and Hangzhou Bay Construction Group. In recent years, with the overarching goal of building a "New Jianqiao with a thriving economy and flourishing culture," the subdistrict has leveraged its "semi-urban, semi-rural" characteristics to explore coordinated development strategies for the Chengdong New Town and the airport-surrounding area. In 2020, its total fiscal revenue exceeded 3 billion yuan for the first time, while fixed-asset investment maintained a scale of tens of billions.
